TAG | Untouchables

In our history class we are studying India and their caste system. In Ancient India the Ayrans separated India into social groups because they were easier to control. The four groups were called Varnas.

  • Brahmins: The Brahmins were priests in India.
  • Kshatriya: The Kshatriya were warriors and rulers.
  • Vaisyas: The Vaisyas were common people.
  • Sudras: Sudras were unskilled laborers and servants

There is another group lower than Sudras called Untouchables or Pariahs but they are not really considered a group. The Untouchables were a poor group of people that performed un-clean work. They were not allowed to touch other people of higher social class and had to walk three steps behind them.
