TAG | Hammurabi
In ancient Meso
potamia, people didn’t know if Hamurabi’s laws were fair or unfair. One example of a fair one is rule #239. Because if a constructor makes a house for a person and it breaks down they should rebuild it. Another example of a reasonable code is #200. If someone knocks the teeth out of another person they shall get there teeth knocked out to. People should know peace not violence. Now to the horrible ones. #210 is an example of a horrible one. If a mother dies their daughter shall be put to death. Is that cruel or what. I don’t know what these people were thinking when they were making these laws. These laws are to cruel. One other nasty law is #22.If any one is committing a robbery and is caught, then he shall be put to death. Shouldn’t they only put him in jail instead of killing him. Many Mesopatamians didn’t even think if these laws were cruel or fair. I personaly think that all of Hammurabi’s laws are the worst on the world. How about you?
Hammurabi’s laws in ancient Mesopotamia were one of the first attempt to make laws that everybody in the town, valley,or city had to obey. Some of his laws were fair.Law #233 is an example of a fair law which says that if a contractor builds a house for someone and the walls start to fall, then the builder must use his own money and labor to make the walls secure. This is an example of a fair law because if someone builds a house and does not build it well,he must pay for it or rebuild it for free.
Another example of a fair law is law #6 which says
Hammurabi was a young boy when he was Babylon king. He was a great ruler because he turned Babylon into a large powerful state. Another example why Hammurabi was a great ruler was because he directed projects like building city walls, restoring temples, digging, and cleaning irrigation canals. One other reason he was a great ruler was because he arranged city streets in straight lines. He also fought for many years to control a river. One thing that the codes cover was bringing water to the fields. Another code ment violent punishment. Another code ment to not allowed no explanation from an accused person. One code protected the areas.
I agree that if anyone gives another silver, gold,or anything else to keep he must show it to a witness, draw up a contract, and hand it over for safe keeping. I agree because what about if someone stole it from that person and he or she didn’t have prove that they stole it.
I don’t agree that if a son strikes his father his hands must be hewn off. I don’t agree because that is not fare and he should just be punished not have his hands hewn off.
Hammurabi was a young man when he became king of Babylon. He was the son of Sinmurabi. His father was king of Babylon before Hammurabi was. Hammurabi turned Mespotamia from a small city-state into a large powerful state. Hammurabi also created the first laws.
He is considered a great ruler because he fought against his enemies for many years to take control over the river. Another reason is because he brought the other small city-states of Mespotamia under one rule. His codes covered crimes, farming, and business activities, marriage, and family. Almost everything alive.
One of Hammurabi’s laws that I do agree with is that if a man rents his boat to a sailor and the sailor wrecks the boat the sailor will have have to give the owner of the boat another boat. I agree with it because I think it’s fair that if he wrecked it and it’s not his he should have to give the owner a new one.
One law that I do not agree with is if a son strikes his father the son’s hands will be cut off. I disagree with this law because that is too cruel, and the son should be punished in a less violent way.
